How to succeed in telemarketing and not lose it.

I have been working as a telemarketer for more than half a year now and I feel like its finally time to give some feedback and share some important facts about the position that may be helpful for the potential job seeker and maybe share some life hacks for those who are thinking of or is starting to work in such industry.

First of all, telemarketing is all about selling or promoting. This requires a lot of social interacting and a remarkable talent for persuasion, so be ready to talk to people for 40 hours a week (excluding your everyday interaction). Every worker of the sales industry is dealing with the different task of this job, mine is about connecting with the IT representatives of various companies and introducing them to the new programs and tools from the field. Every aspect of the selling process is not the easiest one and my job is not an exception. The likelihood of the person not having heard of the services presented to them is quite low, as well as the probability of a company desperately looking for new solutions in various subjects such as security or data backup is almost zero. So what is left for us? Make the plain things look interesting and worthy of attention, our task is to show the most ‘’appetizing’’ side of service to we present and make the potential client at least give it a chance. (in our case make him visit a special web meeting presenting a product in more details)

So what pitfalls to expect? Well, be ready to be delicately rejected, sometimes there is not much you can do when the company is quite satisfied with their current solution. Second, the speech is our main tool, but sometimes it can let us down, one wrongly selected word or expression, one question set at the wrong time and the client are lost. Moreover, since we are all humans with feelings, the answer you may get may not always be the most considerate one.

Never take someone’s attitude TOO personally-draw conclusions. Also, don’t let your failures demotivate you-benefit from it. The best way is to keep track of your unsuccessful as well as your successful conversations, the obvious thing to do, but still really important.

Telemarketing is not only about being able to click with people but also about being able to find a way out of various tricky situations, ex. : on a way to a Cyber Security Director you may meet a strict assistant or a secretary who may not allow you to the authority without the previous contact-so turn on quick wits- persuade her it is not your first time talking to this person.

In selling there is no place for hesitation: the customer may not be sure if they need the thing that you sell-doesn’t mean you should be. Sometimes the other person’s hesitation may even come in handy since you will have more time and space to persuade them.

Based on my experience and all foregoing I make state such lifehacks:

· Always smile when you are calling -but don’t over sweeten it

· Study the soon-to-be- presented subject from every aspect, understand the value of it yourself-otherwise nobody will buy it from you.

· Learn to present the subject from every aspect: both theoretical and practical. Ex. : Cyberbit It is a platform in the cloud or on-premise to simulate attacks and to react to them correctly. It works like simulation training for pilots.

· Don’t forget to study from your previous unsuccessful conversations.

And don’t be afraid, it all may feel and look awkward at first, but with the constant practise you will soon get your first deals. Heads up and breathe deeply.
